Filipino Crew Caught in Crossfire: DFA Slams Houthi Assault on Merchant Vessel

Today, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) strongly condemned a recent attack by Houthi forces on a merchant vessel carrying a Filipino crew. The incident occurred in the Red Sea, where the vessel was navigating international waters.

According to initial reports, the attack left several crew members injured and caused significant damage to the ship. The DFA has assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino crew members. Immediate medical assistance and support are being coordinated with local authorities and international partners.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo issued a statement denouncing the violent act and calling for the protection of seafarers in conflict zones. “We demand an immediate cessation of these hostilities that endanger the lives of innocent civilians and disrupt global maritime trade,” Manalo stated.

The DFA is closely monitoring the situation and working with international maritime organizations to enhance security measures for ships passing through the region. The Philippines, being one of the largest suppliers of seafarers globally, remains committed to safeguarding its nationals against such threats.
