Flight for Paradise: Tolentino Pushes for Increased Tawi-Tawi Flights to Boost Tourism

Manila, Philippines – June 14, 2024

Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino has pledged his full support for the tourism initiatives of Tawi-Tawi, aiming to attract more visitors to the picturesque island province. In his recent radio program on DWIZ, Tolentino emphasized the untapped potential of Tawi-Tawi’s tourism industry and advocated for improved flight connectivity to facilitate easier access for travelers.

“We need to enhance and expand the number of flights to Tawi-Tawi because many people are eager to explore your province,” Tolentino remarked during a conversation with Governor Yshmael Sali on Friday.

The senator lauded the natural beauty of Tawi-Tawi, likening its pristine white sand beaches to those of Boracay Island. “The tourism there is remarkable. Tawi-Tawi is incredibly beautiful. When you see the beaches there, the sand is even finer than in Boracay. There is immense potential there,” Tolentino expressed, drawing from his experience in promoting local tourism during his tenure as Mayor of Tagaytay City.

Governor Sali highlighted Tawi-Tawi’s rich cultural heritage, abundant marine resources, and diverse scenic spots, noting that each of the province’s eleven municipalities offers a unique experience for visitors. He also pointed out Tawi-Tawi’s distinction as the ‘Seaweeds Capital of the Philippines’ and the home of the Sheikh Karimul Makhdum Mosque, the oldest mosque in the Philippines and Southeast Asia located in Simunul.

Assuring the public of the province’s safety and hospitality, Governor Sali mentioned a recent 50% increase in tourist arrivals, reflecting growing interest in Tawi-Tawi as a travel destination.

Senator Tolentino is scheduled to visit Tawi-Tawi and spend a week in Zamboanga City to attend the opening of the Mindanao qualifying leg of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games from June 23-29. His visit underscores his commitment to supporting local development initiatives and promoting tourism across the Philippines.

As efforts to enhance Tawi-Tawi’s tourism infrastructure and promotion continue, stakeholders remain optimistic about the province’s potential to become a premier destination in the region, offering unique cultural experiences and breathtaking natural landscapes.

Stay tuned for updates as Senator Tolentino’s advocacy for Tawi-Tawi’s tourism development progresses, promising exciting opportunities for both local communities and visitors alike.
