June 19, 2024 – MANILA, Philippines — Suspended mayor Alice Guo of a Tarlac town has fired back at recent allegations made by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, asserting her innocence and denying all accusations against her. In a letter dated June 18, Guo directly addressed Bersamin, stating, “Mariin kong pinabubulaanan ang anumang pagkakasangkot sa mga umano’y kaso ng kidnapping, illegal detention o human trafficking. Ang mga paratang na ito ay ganap na walang batayan at walang kahit anong katotohanan.” (I strongly deny any involvement in the alleged cases of kidnapping, illegal detention, or human trafficking. These allegations are completely baseless and void of any truth.)
Guo reiterated her stance that the accusations are without merit, a position she had maintained during a Senate panel investigation into her alleged ties with Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs). On Monday, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) announced plans to file human trafficking charges against Guo.
PAOCC spokesperson Winston Casio explained that Guo could be held liable for human trafficking due to her partial ownership of properties where these activities allegedly took place. However, Guo did not address this specific point in her letter to Bersamin, who also serves as the head of PAOCC.
“My client has always conducted her duties with integrity and transparency,” Guo’s lead attorney stated. “We are prepared to present all necessary documentation and evidence to refute these baseless claims.”
Bersamin’s camp has remained steadfast in their accusations, calling for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability. “The allegations are serious and warrant a detailed investigation to ensure justice,” a spokesperson for Bersamin stated.
