Therese Villarante, a Cebuana hitmaker, wrote the multimedia book “Girl with a Broken String.”

IN A NUTSHELL
The story of Sam, a young singer-songwriter whose first love, J, abandoned her without explanation, is told in Girl with a Broken String. Sam establishes a blog with letters and music to him to reach out to him in order to deal with the heartache.

Therese Villarante-Langit, who is most known for her collaboration on the Bisaya hit songs “My Morena Girl” (performed by Hey Joe Show) and “Bok Love”), has created a book named “Girl with a Broken String” that mixes literature, music, and narrative. Demetria Head, a US-based author and host of the “A Look Inside” podcast, calls Therese’s debut book a “testament to the power of creativity and innovation in literature, providing readers with a truly unforgettable and emotionally charged reading experience.”

Therese’s life experiences served as a loose inspiration for the novel. She writes in the book’s introduction, “I was 23, never had a partner, and was rudely dumped by the boy who, at that time, was my closest romantic experience.

The song “Song on a Broken String” was then created by Therese and was later performed by Nicole Asensio as a finalist in the 2014 Philpop Songwriting Competition.

With the help of musical director Jude Gitamondoc, illustrator M Sanoria, animator Lee Anthony Pada, performance artist Ivy Gallur, and singer Daryl Leong, Therese would finish an innovative novel nine years later.

Girl with a Broken String, the printed novel, was first published in June in Therese’s birthplace of Cebu City and debuted at the just-completed Manila International Book Fair. The e-book version was released on September 30 in Quezon City and is accessible on Apple and Amazon.

The vocalists from Girl with a Broken String are among the featured performers at the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival at the BGC Art Center.

The fact that our debut novel is set in both literary and musical settings amazes me. Therese exclaims enthusiastically, “Our book is available on both shelves and stages. “I’m so happy to be a storyteller experiencing this,”
