11 Manila Cops relieved from their posts for alleged extortion

Eleven Manila Police District (MPD) anti-drug unit officers, including the chief, were fired for extortion.

Lt. Col. Brillante Billaoac of MPD Station 14 ordered Maj. Gil John Lobaton and 10 men to be relieved while being investigated.

MPD spokesman Maj. Philipp Ines accused Barbosa police of extorting P45,000 from two women.

On Nov. 7, tabloid journalist Joey Galicia Venancio posted on Facebook that MPD Station 14’s drug enforcement unit conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Moriones.
Venancio claimed the suspects searched a house and arrested two women without a warrant.

Ladies were taken to a house in front of Quiapo’s Barbosa police station.

Venancio posted a video of men entering an alleyway house.

Venancio claimed six policemen demanded money from the victims while wearing masks and identifying themselves by surname.

The victims were released after payment.

Ines called Lobaton a “decorated police officer,” who received city government praise in April for securing P11 million in shabu during a sting.
