DOLE: October 30-November 1-2 holidays are designated as “No work, no pay.”

Employers were reminded by the Department of Labour and Employment on Sunday how much money should be paid to employees who would be showing up for work on the approaching holidays.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma stated in an interview with Radyo 630 that October 30, November 1, and November 2 are designated as exceptional non-working holidays, meaning that the “no work, no pay” policy will be in effect.

An advisory detailing the pay computation for the impending special non-working holidays was released by DOLE last week. Employees’ pay will be determined by the following guidelines:

The “no work, no pay” rule will be in effect if the employee didn’t work, unless there is a positive corporate policy, practise, or collective bargaining agreement that allows payment on an exceptional day.
He or she will receive an additional 30% of their basic pay for the first eight hours of work (basic salary x 130%) for work completed on the special day.
The employee will get an additional 30% of their hourly rate on the day in question for labour beyond eight hours (overtime work) (hourly rate of the basic wage x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked).
Employers must pay an extra 50% of basic pay for the first eight hours worked by an employee who works on a special day that also happens to be a rest day (basic wage x 150%).
Employees who work overtime on a designated day that also happens to be their rest day will be compensated at a rate equal to 30% of their hourly rate on that particular day (hourly rate of the basic wage x 150% x 130% x number of hours worked).
Laguesma informed the public that workplaces with an alternate arrangement that continues to pay employees on specific non-working holidays are exempt from the “no work, no pay” policy.

“There may be an existing company policy that, even if you don’t come to work due to a holiday, you will still be compensated, or any similar kind of arrangement your employer has,” Laguesma stated in Filipino.

October 30, 2023, is the date of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

All Saints’ Day is observed on November 1st, while All Souls’ Day is observed on November 2nd, which is also a special non-working day.
