Man detained for stealing cable wire

Police said yesterday that a 57-year-old man was taken into custody on Thursday in Quezon City for allegedly stealing cable cables.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, director of the Quezon City Police District, said that a complaint against the suspect, Fernando Villanueva, for violating Republic Act 10515, also known as the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act, is pending before the city prosecutor’s office.

At around 5:45 p.m., Villanueva was apprehended by officers from the La Loma police station located in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

According to Maranan, Villanueva was severing copper lines at the intersection of Don Pepe and Maria Clara streets when a concerned bystander called the station.

200 pairs of copper cable wire, each measuring about five meters in length and valued at P9,221 were taken from the suspect.
