Typhoon “Jenny” intensifies “habagat” in some areas of Luzon, sending out Signal No. 3 in Northern Batanes.

Despite Typhoon “Jenny”‘s slight weakening, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday placed the northern part of Batanes under Signal No. 3. According to weather expert Obet Badrina, Signal No. 3 is up over Itbayat, while Signal No. 2 is up over the rest of Batanes and the northern Babuyan Islands, including the Calayan Islands.

According to Pagasa, the typhoon’s eye was 270 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Itbayat and was moving at 10 kph in a west-northwesterly direction.

Near the core, it can sustain winds up to 150 kph, and gusts can reach 185 kph.

According to Badrina, Jenny will continue to strengthen the “habagat,” or southwest monsoon, which will produce sporadic rainfall across the western parts of Luzon during the next three days.
“The enhancement of habagat by Jenny will bring gusty conditions for the next three days over areas not under any wind signal, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds,” predicts the Pagasa forecaster.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall over the southern part of Taiwan on Thursday morning, then it will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday afternoon or evening, according to the most recent forecast from the agency.
